With its first ever inclusion in the long standing Veritas Awards this year, brandy achieved a historic milestone. At this auspicious event some of the country’s finest representatives of wine and brandy lined up at a gala evening at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Friday, October 8, to collect their prizes.
Spier Wines excelled at the 20th Veritas Awards for the second consecutive year with five double gold and two gold medals. Out of 1 733 entries only 64 supreme wines and brandies can now wear the coveted double gold symbol of top quality. The awards were announced last night (Friday 8 October) during a gala evening, sponsored by Agri-Expo, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
To assess and render an authoritative opinion of hundreds of wines within a dedicated space of time requires an untiring and well developed palate, as well as a very deep seated love and knowledge of good wine. From 13 to 20 September five revered international judges, together with more than 100 local wine and brandy gurus adjudicated 1 732 wines and brandies during this year’s Veritas wine competition.
