Joe Wadsack, drinks expert and TV Presenter on shows such as BBC’s Food and Drink and ITV’s Ladette to Lady, has teamed up with internationally renowned bar personality and consultant Dean Callan to promote the wines and brandies of South Africa. Over four special episodes of the Dean Callan Show, Joe aims to show just how compelling these wines are to a larger audience.
Joe, a regular judge at the annual Veritas Wine Awards in South Africa, has selected a collection of wines from those that have been awarded Double Gold status, the highest rating in this internationally respected competition. Armed with these spectacular drinks, Joe aims to bring the joy and unparalleled value of South African wine to a wider audience.
Joe, who has his own YouTube show The Drinks Coach UK, stated, “I feel incredibly privileged to have been invited to judge The Veritas Awards in South Africa over the past few years, and I feel that I want to give something back. The South African drinks industry has suffered enormously during the current pandemic, more so than most, and in the absence of human contact and the ability to ‘press the flesh’, so to speak, of so many exciting winemakers, young and old, from South Africa, I decided to try to bring these awesome wines to a virtual audience instead. We are nearly there, and I hope this series of four YouTube shows with my friend Dean Callan will spark a wider interest in what has to be the best value wine country on earth.”
These shows will be live on Friday night for the next three weeks (12th, 19th and 26th March) at 7pm British Summer Time (9pm in Cape Town). The link is: https://youtu.be/5-OUE6m41ow
Furthermore, Joe will be inviting a respected wine personality each week to join him and Dean and to shed their light on these lovely wines, starting with Helena Nicklin of Amazon Prime’s hugely successful show The Three Drinkers, which is currently showing in 175 countries. She has decided to talk about Chenin Blanc and her nemesis, Pinotage, to get the ball rolling.
The Veritas competition is aiming to show an almost complete range of Double Gold medals wines from the past two years of the competition at the White Horse in South West London on Tuesday 6th July, COVID restrictions permitting (check the WSTA Trade Diary for further information.) The winemakers of the last two highly prestigious Veritas Vertex Overall Champion Wine will be invited over from the Cape Winelands to present their world-class creations in person at this event. This is made possible by the partnership of Vinventions, a global leader in complete wine closure solutions, that will sponsor the visits by the award winning wine makers to the UK and on an educational tour to France.
