To assess and render an authoritative opinion of hundreds of wines within a dedicated space of time requires an untiring and well developed palate, as well as a very deep seated love and knowledge of good wine. From 13 to 20 September five revered international judges, together with more than 100 local wine and brandy gurus adjudicated 1 732 wines and brandies during this year’s Veritas wine competition.
The 2010 Veritas Awards welcome brandy into the fold – the first time in the Awards’ 20 year history. This new class to Veritas provides the South African brandy industry - which up to now had to compete mostly in international competitions - with a major local platform to show its mettle.
One of the world’s most authoritative wine experts and the first South African chairperson of the international Institute of Masters of Wine, Lynne Sheriff, will once again share her imposing knowledge and 30-year long experience as judge during this year’s Veritas. Sheriff, a South African wine consultant based in Britain, has just taken over the lead of this prominent wine organisation with its head office in England.
